BMW F650GS

The BMW F650GS is the sort of product that creates a lot of confusion, mostly because of its name and how it was used on its predecessor and the current one despite some serious changes in between.

The period between 1993 and 2000 saw the BMW F650 exist as a single cylinder engine bike and the current 2008 and beyond is a totally different parallel-twin setup that features a number of more modern technologies.

A modern BMW F650GS is powered by a water cooled, four-stroke, double overhead camshafts, 8 valve that gives its rider a decent thrill at 71 horsepower, courtesy of a 6 speed gearbox and an O-Ring chain.

Fun is one thing but there’s a point when it has to stop and in the BMW F650GS that’s handled by a single 300 mm disk and another 265 one at the back. Only one piston is used to stop but the optional ABS should more than make up for it.

If you think this isn’t enough, the same engine as in the BMW F650GS is on offer in the F800GS with more horsepower. At this point the brakes get beefier and the tires get considerably wider with the wheels no longer being spoked.
