BMW 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid Prototype Unveiled at 2014 Group Innovation Days

The BMW German premium carmaker has specifically chosen the 2014 Group Innovation Days to unveil the one-off BMW 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid prototype, the model standing side-by-side with the BMW 5-Series GT prototype.

This would be the first facelift carried out on the 3-Series, the model now coming with a lot of interesting changes at the body, as we could also depict from the camouflaged shots. Under the hood, the model is also coming with a conventional engine hooked to an electric motor.

From a visual point of view, the BMW 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid prototype will be coming with a revised rear bumper, changes to the headlights and the taillights, as well as other tweaks that will make it stand out from the crowd.

The most interesting part, the unit under the hood, is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline powertrain, backed by an electric motor. Both are hooked to a lithium-ion battery installed beneath the load compartment.

The overall power stands at a good 245 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, mated to a newly updated 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The fuel consumption is also important, meaning just a poor 2L / 100 km.
