2017 BMW 5-Series Touring Spied

The 2017 BMW 5-Series is ready to receive the Touring version, which will emerge on the market somewhere in the first quarter of 2016, coming as a 2017 year model. A test mule with the 2017 BMW 5-Series Touring has been spotted while undergoing some heavy tests, all wrapped in camouflage.

The 2017 BMW 5-Series Touring will not receive a big platform, as it will be based on the same one used on the F10 sedan and the F11 Touring models, but will however shed some weight, with around 200 kg. We are dealing though with a carbon-fiber modular platform, also named the 35up platform.

Even if it will use the 35up platform, the model will be more performance, as it will use high-strength steel as well as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, also perfect to fit some powerful powertrains.

Speaking about performance, the 2017 BMW 5-Series Touring will use a wide array of four-, six- as well as eight-cylinder engines. We should mention here the new V8 engine fitted under the 550i, as well as a plug-in hybrid version, with a 2.0-liter and electric motor, reaching an overall 350 horsepower.

On the other hand, the M range might also come up with the M550d with quad-turbocharged diesel, developing more than 400 horsepower, while an M5 twin-turbo V8 would churn out around 600 horsepower.

Unfortunately, the 2017 BMW 5-Series Touring will not be launched in the United States, instead the new-gen 5-Series Gran Turismo is likely to be offered next year as well.
