Volvo V60 Polestar Takes on Alpina D3 Biturbo in Video

Famous Fifth Gear has recently carried out a test drive involving the all-new Volvo V60 Polestar taking on the Alpina D3 Biturbo, both models being also previewed in an interesting video presentation.

The test drive is even more interesting as we are dealing here with the performance divisions of both Volvo and BMW. Polestart has now become the hardcore division of Volvo, fitting its models with extremely high-performance engines under the hood, while Alpina has represented BMW`s tuning division for decades. Now, it all remains to find out which is the fastest on the track.

Starting with the all-new Volvo V60 Polestar, the model is packing a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 engine, with 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, hooked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the Alpina D3 Biturbo seems to be more powerful, thanks to the upgraded 3.0-liter I6 turbocharged engine, with 350 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, sending the power to the wheels via a high-performance ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is done in 4.6 seconds.

So far, the performance figures give a clear advantage to Alpina D3 Biturbo, the S90 Polestar being less powerful. But the latter is coming with a Haldex-based all-wheel drive system, meaning that on the track, it handles pretty good, especially in tight corners, whereas the D3 biturbo, with a rear-wheel transmission might tend to oversteer. In the end, an all-wheel drive layout might be just enough to win the confrontation.

We won`t give away the fun video, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride!
