Report: BMW G30 M550d Might Receive Quad-Turbo Pot with Whopping Power

According to recent reports issued by BimmerToday, the upcoming G30 BMW M550d might switch from its current triple-turbo diesel six-cylinder engine to a new quad-turbo pot with impressive power.

Once arriving on the market, the upcoming G30 BMW M550d will be based on the freshly released G30 5-Series and will receive a four-turbo engine with 290 kW and 760 Nm of torque, which is quite an important upgrade from 280 kW and 740 Nm of torque.

We will be thus looking at the most powerful diesel engine with six-cylinder configuration ever built, with worthy performance figures. Also very interesting to notice, is the way the torque will be distributed.

According to the same report, almost 80 percent of the car`s 294 kW will be available between 3,000 rpm and 5,000 rpm, while 90 percent of the 760 Nm of torque will be available from 1,600 rpm to 1,400 rpm.

This would translate in an impressive run from 0 to 100 km/h – just 4.5 seconds, bringing it extremely close to the hardcore M5, as well as to the 750d variant from the 7-Series, with the same sprint being done in 4.6 seconds.

The new G30 BMW M550d will also be hooked to a high-performance eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, which will distribute the engine`s power to the xDrive all-wheel drive system. Stay tuned for more incoming news and details on the M550d`s quad-turbo engine!
