The new judge, Kara DioGuardieven got into a singing faceoff with one of the contestants, a woman named Katrina Darrell who showed up in a string bikini, delighting male judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson and earning the scorn of DioGuardi and Paula Abdul. Now he can add national TV exposure to his resume. One singer named Michael had trouble raising his voice above a dull croak.
Since the announcement early last year that American Idol was coming back on ABC, after wrapping up its supposedly final season on Fox inmost of the excitement about its return centered on the new panel of judges. But the overall focus on these celebrity judges speaks to a larger problem for Idol that helps explain why the onetime ratings giant lost steam and seems unlikely to regain its former glory. It did so by making stars, not hiring them.
Surely by now, you've heard all about all the changes afoot on this season of American Idolthe eighth. Note: Click on photos to enlarge We have to admit, we're surprised to be saying that this was one of the most entertaining "American Idol" finale shows ever. And, perhaps, the only performance show in recent memory that came in on time. After Ryan Seacrest warned us on Tuesday to set extra time on our DVR's because the show was going to run over, it actually ran just the 2 hrs.
When she was a few lines in, Kara came out behind her to chime in with a mock competition. At the end Kara stripped off her dress to show that not only could she sing better than Katrina, she also had a more banging non-surgically enhanced body. Kara seemed a little shy about being on stage in a bikini it and covered up quickly afterwards.

Ryan Seacrest presented Katrina with a "Golden Idol" for "Best Attitude" which seemed like a pretty good excuse to get her to parade on stage in a bikini again. To finish off, just before a commercial break, Kara opens her dress and reveals herself wearing a black bikini; for charity - of course. Although Kara then acts very embarrassed and tries to cover.
